Ironmen,

Today, after much "encouragement" from Steve Hayes, I have finally set up the Ironmen blog.

This is where the content of our fortnightly discussions will be uploaded and shared.

This will hopefully be a convenient and efficient way to communicate, share and pass on to others in the team.

Admin notes:
Save the URL for future reference.

Thx Steve for the suggestion.

Ben

  3. Notes From Morne's Topic:
    Risk Taking

    As requested, here are some bullet points on our chat last week:

    * Question: What does everyone understand as a risk in the natural and spiritual life and is there a difference?
    * Liana’s answer: In the natural, because of sin believers and non-believers are on equal footing when it comes to risk. Disease and death comes to us all equally. In the spiritual, because of what Jesus did for us at Calvary, believers have less risk if they live in God’s will and according to His paths
    * So the spiritual impacts the natural/physical – prayer, fasting, communion, spiritual gifts, etc.
    * MornĂ©’s answer: We are born into a world at war. Your destiny is linked to a path flaunt with risk. Risk is good, it makes life worth living. It makes you come alive and as someone once said: “The glory of God is man fully alive”. Whether you live it is up to you! ‘Winning’ in this life, so to speak, requires risking it all in a sense.
    * God took the first step up the risk/reward curve by giving us, the love of His life, free will. A massive risk, which didn’t pay off. The odds (risk) came in and sin ripped us from Him, it cost Him His heart.
    * He backed it up with an even bigger risk – sending his Son
    * I don’t believe Jesus, as a man, was a slam dunk – let’s discuss that for a minute

    * How do we perceive risk in our direct relationship with God the Father? Safe/dangerous/risky/untrustworthy/unknown/follow Him no matter what
    * Do we trust/obey/submit to Jesus’ authority? Being submissive and vulnerable? You can only be that when you feel safe, i.e. not at risk
    * Are we holding back?

    * Risk with others
    * Spiritual growth is directly linked to taking the risk and confessing our sins to one another and to God, ask for forgiveness and forgive those that wronged us – fear of man, fear of rejection, i.e. what if they don’t reciprocate? Keys to growth and healing!
    * All tough decisions as a leader requires risk assessment and taking
    * Discipleship/Ministry/Outreach – all areas under heavy enemy attack, LOTS of risk, payoff is massive
    * So where are you on the risk/reward scale (Use graph)

    * My view of risk in the spiritual and natural – GOD UNDERWRITES OUR SUCCESS!

    * Biblical references
    * OT - Judges/Chronicles – Risk = life and death battles
    * NT – Most references are to live lives of sacrifice to Christ and each other, like He did
    * Gen 12:1 – God told Abraham to leave and go, take a risk and trust God – paid off with wealth and a heritage
    * Jer 29:11 – God has good plans for us
    * Phil 4:13 – Run the race hard, don’t leave anything in the tank. Look for the opportunity, be ready to take a risk, seek God’s view and if He gives you the nod, pin your ears back and don’t leave anything in the tank!
