Here's an excerpt from the Atheist Foundation submission, to the NSW State Parliament inquiry on Homosexual Marriage:
"The argument for marriage equality is based on impartiality and common sense. All arguments against often reflect bigotry and ignorance and a fear of change."

I do note with some humour that as an atheist, their definition of anything in this world can be anything, because there is nothing external to mandate what that something actually is. Which in turn is self defeating though the premise they use for seeking a change is based on equality and equal respect which begs the question, why? Why limit to respect and equality? What makes those attributes more valuable than others ?
I do also note with sadness that they think we are bigoted and ignorant. To that end, I would suggest it is they who are may be ignorant of the consideration and reflection that the church has done on this topic and the careful and considered way we have gone about putting our case forward. Of course I can't speak for every church or Christian, but the main lobby group under the ACL, has done a very good job.
Instead when I went to a public rally on support for keeping the marriage definition as it is, held by the Australian Marriage Forum, I was screamed at by the Gay protesters "FUCK OFF YOU BIGOTS! FUCK OFF!!!" Not that the gay protestors were necessarily members of the Atheist Foundation, but their position was clearly the same, just expressed in a cruder way.
